Message from Julie Ray, Chief of Schools

Downing families,

I have an important administrative announcement for next school year.

Principal Stephani has submitted her resignation and will be leaving Downing at the end of the school year. I am grateful for her care and dedication to the Downing students, staff, and community.

I’m happy to share that Ariel Becker, the current assistant principal at Boze Elementary School, has been selected as the new principal, effective July 1, pending Board approval.

Ms. Becker started in Tacoma as a special education teacher in 2013. Since then, she has served as an instructional facilitator and assistant principal. 

I know Principal Stephani will work with Ms. Becker to ensure a smooth transition for students, staff, and families. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Becker to the Downing community.
